Atticus, sometimes you read about a place and you think it sounds like a dream. I had a dream of visiting the great ruins of Petra and I have to tell you that it lives up to its reputation! It is awe-inspiring in its construction, beauty and size. What's more is that travelling to Petra took me to the country of Jordan, and it turns out that Petra is just one of its many gems. I explored the mosques and markets of Amman, looked across the Dead Sea, went canyoning in Wadi Mujib, diving in the Red Sea, and soaked in the incredible beauty of the Wadi Rum desert. The colors, the tastes, the creatures, the sunsets... it was indeed all like a dream!
Bom dia Atticus! That's how we say good day in Portuguese. Until recently I had never explored this part of Europe, and I have to say that though my trip was brief, I loved it! I took the train from the town of Guimaraes - the birthpace of Portugal - to Porto. I arrived in the splendid Sao Bento railway station. In my opinion, there's no better way to be introduced to this pleasant city than walking through the tiled gallery of the station. I walked up and down the streets of Porto, and all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. The food, the facades, the Port wine... everything was an escape for the senses. I loved my short trip here and I'm really looking forward to one day explore Portugal more.
Atticus, few places in the world seem unreal, but that's exactly how it felt when I was in Svalbard. I felt like I was living a documentary! Ice Ice Ice, ice everywhere! But first... I started my trip in Tromso, a city 350 kilometres North of the Artic Circle in Northern Norway. It was a pretty cool place to check out and get ready to board my ship. I then set sail on the Nordstjernen, headed North to Bear Island. Bear Island was incredible - a dot on the map that I got to put my paws on. We then continued further North to the land of the polar bear - Svalbard. Svalbard is one of the world’s northernmost islands, 60% covered in ice all year, and home to more polar bears than people!!! It was truly out of this world. I saw polar bears through binoculars, walruses, dolphins, reindeer, arctic foxes, puffins and even the midnight sun (that last picture was taken at 1 in the morning)! Can you even imagine?
Hi there Atticus! My latest adventure took me to Scotland, where I explored the Cairngorms mountains in the Eastern Highlands, Speyside and the Granite City - Aberdeen. It was a real trip - driving on the left side along country roads, learning how Scotch whisky is made, exploring the wild landscapes of the Highlands, and looking out across the North Sea at giant oil platforms. What a mix of experiences! My personal favorite was the unexpected vistas of the Cairngorms and spotting Osprey flying above. Fantastic!
"Yodlee hihi!!!" I have LOVED discovering Engelberg Atticus! The views from the top of the Swiss Alps are incredible but that's not all that this town has to offer. I got to go inside of a glacier and I watch gliders in the sky for hours. On top of that I got to see how cheese is made and sample REAL Swiss fondue. YUM-MY! Now that's my kind of exploration!
Can you say Zaragoza? I've spent the last couple of days exploring the streets of this Spanish city that I really didn't know anything about. The Plaza de Nuestra Senora del Pilar and the Cathedral-Basilica were both spectular sights to take in.
Atticus, check out those lines! Today I tried my hand at backcountry skiing in the Deux Alpes in France. It was challenging and exhilarating! It always feels awesome to look back and see you tracks in the snow. I can't wait until you can join me on the slopes.
Italia!!! Belissima! To ring in the new year, I caught a red eye for a quick trip in the city of Milan, Italy. In a short amount of time, my paws carried me all over the city and I managed to see the incredible Duomo cathedral, eat yummy yummy Panettone (a tasy type of Italian cake), explore the shopping galeries, gaze upon the canals that made Milan a pillar of the Italian economy many years ago, visit the Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie (the Last Supper by da Vinci is inside but I didn't manage to sneak a peek before closing time) and the enormous Castello Sforzecso. To top it off, I dined on scrumptious fresh pasta and octopus! It was a real treat. You should definitely try it Atticus. All of that and I bet you didn't even notice I was gone. Happy New Year!
