Italia!!! Belissima! To ring in the new year, I caught a red eye for a quick trip in the city of Milan, Italy. In a short amount of time, my paws carried me all over the city and I managed to see the incredible Duomo cathedral, eat yummy yummy Panettone (a tasy type of Italian cake), explore the shopping galeries, gaze upon the canals that made Milan a pillar of the Italian economy many years ago, visit the Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie (the Last Supper by da Vinci is inside but I didn't manage to sneak a peek before closing time) and the enormous Castello Sforzecso. To top it off, I dined on scrumptious fresh pasta and octopus! It was a real treat. You should definitely try it Atticus. All of that and I bet you didn't even notice I was gone. Happy New Year!
Hi Atticus, curiosity got the better of me and on my last winter adventure I went exploring the land that started it all for your family - Kansas. My first stop was Topeka, the town where your parents, aunts and uncles grew up and started their lives together. It was so heart warming to experience for myself the wonders of a Steinlage winter wonderland. You could feel the love bursting from Grandma Sue and Grandpa Dame's house. My exploring didn't stop there. I visited the capitol building and another Topeka landmark - Bobo's drive in. I now totally see what all the fuss is about! What's not to love? Tasty burgers, onion rings, apple pie and a waitress that calls you 'hon'. It's a true blast from the past. My paws then took me to Lake Shawnee to breath in some of the natural landscape of the area before heading to downtown Topeka.
On a day trip from Topeka, I got to experience some of your Auntie M and Tonton's favorite spots in KC. On the way there I couldn't help but hear the Beatles in my head ... "Ah Kansas City
Going to get my baby back home..." During the winter, the KC Country Club Plaza lights are a highlight to see as they twinkle against the night sky, but before the sun set I got to try out some local delicacies - BBQ and fried chicken, and I visited the Boulevard Brewery where your aunt and uncle hosted their 2nd wedding party. The next time we cheer for the Royals, fond memories of KC will be behind each of my cheers. |
