Atticus, I just had a truly unexpected experience in Warsaw, Poland. You know how curiosity gets me, and I recently have been very intrigued to explore more of the old Communist Block countries of Eastern Europe. Knowing that Poland had seen much of the wars of the past century, I expected to find Warsaw a rather stark place. I couldn't have been more wrong. The city is booming. New modern high rises and buildings are popping up all over and the historic Old Town still holds strong, showing a glimpse into the past of the country before a series of rocky decades. My paws meandered past Sigimund's column, the onion tops of the Royal Castle, the old palaces and homes, and I even did a little shopping on the Old Market Square. Old Town wasn't the only surprise. As my paws kept wandering i came across the Palace of Culture and Science, a very impressive high rise that remains the tallest building in Poland. Built in 1955, it stands a relic of the Soviet era, yet the Soviet architect was inspired by American art deco buildings. Regardless, by night, all it made me think of was that the Bat signal could appear at any moment and Batman would emerge from a secret entrance.
